Question Larger tires

I have a '03 F-250 SD, I an considering a larger tire to' beef up' it's appearance. I curently have 265/75/16 Firestone factory tires. I would like to buy either the Toyo Open Country 285/75/16 or BF Goodrich All Terrain 285/75/16. I plan to keep the same rims and there is plenty of room above because I have a higher suspension from heavy duty Ranchero shocks. Will this pose a problem and what does everyone think of that tire. thanks mike

Well a 285/75/16 tire is going to be ROUGHLY 1.5" taller than your stock tire size. That would make the spedometer & odometer somewhat inaccurate. That's the biggest concern... Not sure by how much it would throw them off, but you'd be putting on "less" miles according to the odometer and your speedo would be displaying that you're going slower than you actually are.

Let's say you're going about 40mph, your speedo would probably read about 37mph. It also may seem like you're getting less gas mileage too if you calculate it off the odometer.

Other than that, I don't see any problems with going to a bigger tire.
Both tires seem nice to me, I like Toyo tires personally, but I've also had good luck with BFG's. A good place to read reviews from people is www.tirerack.com.

Cool. I didn't know they could reflash the computer to accomodate the larger tires. I've never owned a vehicle this new before...

I have a 1990 F-150

I put 31x10.5x15's on AR Nitros and had no problem.
