Does anyoen know why the new 6.0L dont smoke as much as the old powerstrokes? or why the cam bearings and scensors are going out easier? also does anyoen know why a nonturbocharged diesel is better? or is it?
You didn't say better for what... but
I can't imagine a non-turbocharged diesel being better--- for
anything !
Just disconnect the turbo hose and see how much you like it !
And as far as smoking -
Isn't smoking just unburned fuel ????
the 6-oh does have an EGR system AND a catalytic convertor,
it is much more computer controlled,
and doesn't dump so much fuel that it DOES smoke,
or at least burns it ALL up before going out the exhaust...
but if you want some smoke -
get the predator and put it in the +100HP setting and FLOOR it ...
it doesn't smoke a lot, but does some... and goes !!!
my 02 7.3 with the superdhips used to smoke a LOT !!!
Diesels make power with more fuel (among other things).
Running a gasoline engine richer usually results in a loss of power....not so with a diesel...
Diesels run out of AIR....and this is where power gets limited.
You can fuel them until they choke....and thats fine if enough air is coming in. Adding fuel and seeing a little smoke is ok, but at a certain point you will need to increase airflow (like rasing boost on the turbo).
Can you run them so rich they lose power......yes, but it takes a fair amount of fuel to do this.
Remember....fuel also keeps the cylinders cool and EGT's low.
makes sense Vic...
as soon as I bring mine in for the last dealer visit to fix some 'stuff" they didn't do... I'm getting an intake to go with my exhaust...
I don't need no stinkin smoke
When the shop-diesel site updated their message forum, there were lots of complaints about the CPM (Cam Position Module) on the 6.0's. From reading the numerous Posts about the subject, it would appear to be a high fail item. Most of the Posters recommended keeping a spare in the glove box along w/ a 10mm wrench for changing it out. Most of the symptoms were sudden loss of power & being left on side of the road. Sometimes they could restart it & get home, other times they couldn't..
