can anyone recommend some headers for the truck in my sig? looking for performance and could someone quote me the price with labor. i plan on having it done when i get some new valve cover gaskets which are needed badly.
Do you have a budget in mind? Do you prefer chrome, painted, or ceramic coated? I can give a huge thumbs up to my Bassani headers. They are ceramic coated (less heat in engine compartment = power), equal length (most shorties arent, it evens out the hp and trq bands), and the coating is warrantied against rust through and discoloration. You should check out www.proficientperformance.com . That is where I have purchased all of my exhaust components. As for installation costs, that depends. You can install them yourself. I do not/didnt have the patience to do so. I believe it took the mechanic 6 hours to install them. If you were to do them yourself, I would allocate a whole weekend day.
Ok, I just saw that you said they will be installed with some valve cover gaskets. You should call whichever shop you plan on doing this and ask them approx. how long they take to install headers. Some shops have guys who do nothing but exhaust components. You might want to check around too.
How much are the valve covers going to cost you? That way, I can shop around and see what headers can fit into that budget, that still have good quality.
Most of the time was getting the stock manifolds off (it was done over a weekend, so the beer might have taken him a bit longer). The studs can/did break in the block. I had a buddy with a shop do it. I have done headers before, and I will never do them again. I have patience, but headers totally drain my patience. Oh, there is no doubting that I am a gearhead, but I know better than to get into something that will totally tick me off.
