I have had my 99 2WD crew cab PSD for about 2 months now and I have a strange question... Ill try to describe it...
When I am first taking off from a stop, I let off the brake and start to roll forward (automatic by the way)... then i start pressing on the gas and when I do i feel a slight bump in the rear end... Also when I am have been accelerating and I let off the gas i get the same bump again... It almost feels like the drive shaft bumping as it engages/disengages the rear end.... anyone have or had this problem...
Many people, including me have had the launch bump. In my case it was the splines between the drive shafts binding. A 30 minute process to drop the rear shaft and grease the splines. In your case that is probably it. However with a 99 that has some miles on it it can also be your universal joints and or carrier bearing. I would check them all. Or, to start with lube the slip splines between the two drive shafts if yours is a two piece. If that doesn't help change the universals, can't hurt on a truck 5 years old.
Hey hcclimber, It is your drive shaft. I have a 2001 an had the same problem. Took it to the dealership an they said it has been a problem on them superduty's with two piece drive shafts. The drive shaft does not have grease zerts, at least mine dont, so they cannot be greased. They have to be removed an pulled apart so it can be greased. That is what the dealership did an it did fix the bump. I thought it was my trans slipping but it is the drive shaft. Later.
