Light Problem

Hey, I am having problems with my trailer signal lights when towing with my 93 Ranger. The signal lights will not work on the trailer unless I push the brake pedal. I checked the trailer to make sure that it wasnt the problem and they work fine with my other vehicle. I bought a new wiring harness with the T adapter to just plug in but after installing it I still have the same problem. The signal blinks fast in the truck and not on the trailer at all until you hit the brake pedal and presto I have signal lights again. I know the easiest fix is to just brake before I signal! Any ideas?? Thanks.

Check all the grounds on your trailer wiring on your truck. Inspect all the wires to make sure they're in good condition and no shorting out or corroded. I don't know too much about the wiring but it sounds like a possible grounding issue. Some of the other guys on this forum should help you figure out the prob.

You have separate turn and brake lamps on your ranger. You need a converter on the pickup to make the circuit work on the trailer properly. You can get one from any parts store to work on your ranger.

I bought the T connector wiring harness that was made for Rangers. I would have thought that if a convertor was needed it would have came in the T connector. But I will give it a shot. Thanks.

You need a "trailer tow relay". Small plug in relay that powers the turn signals. Otherwise, the turn and brake signals merge together through the wiring harness.
