Hi firends, can anybody help me with info on custom interior kits for my 54F-100, and who may have the best price and selection. any info is appreciated. as always your friend fever
Hey Fever, ditto what fenders said. They also have matching seats. I have the complete set up: Roof, door panels, kick panels, over head console and behind the seat. Buy a lot, California needs the revenue. John
Hey Fever, I posted some pix of the Rod Doors stuff in my gallery. Check it out and let me know if this is what you are thinking of. They also have foam they sell that you can shape into your own designs on the doors, roof and behind the seat. And if that's not enough, they also sell their own seats! Good luck, John
I might as well jump in with both feet at this time. I took a look at the Rod Doors kits on the internet and what comes to mind is that they are okay if you want the interior to look different than most interiors but at the same time they are still cookie cutter interiors. If you don't have the equiptment or the time and patience to develop an interior on your own they are definitely an option. My idea of a custom interior is different than that although some of the things I see could be incorporated in my bag of tricks. Good luck on your interior.
I completely agree. Rod Doors has become the standard interior for a street rod. I used their headliner because that was otherwise out of my league. But made my own door panels and kicks for just the reason you mention. I think I needed a razor knife and a pair of scissors as far as equipment goes. Rounding up the materials was the most difficult part because I didn't know what I was doing at first.
Nice job John. I have mine in for a test fit, probably be there for a while. I'm not looking forward to doing the rear panel again, especially with fabric on it. What was your experience with the back panel? Joe
Well, the back panel was not too bad. The roof was worse. The hardest part for both was just making sure that the middle portion was absolutely centered. otherwise, one of the side pieces was just about impossible to get in I used a sharpened wooden dowel to gradually pry the edges into place. I got tired of my fingers getting pinched Good luck, John
Hey! John, very nice job on your interior choice, that helped me alot, those pics help me visualize just how nice my truck can really look inside once i get to that stage. I thought about padding my dash too. Ever hear of such?. Thanks for taking the time to share those pics, your friend fever.
Hey Fever, Thanks a lot. The only padded dash that I have heard of was on a 54 Ford sedan. The owner claimed to have a Ford-supplied accessory padded dash. He said that it was in bad shape and wanted a name of a local upholstery shop to have a new one made. I seem to recall that it was held on with push-on snaps on the under side of the pad. Just food for thought.... Good luck, John
