replacement rear fuel tank

I posted this on the oil, gas forum, but thought it might go here instead....

I need to purchase a replacement rear tank for my 86 F-250 4wd with a 5.8L. Am I looking for a rear or side tank?

It looks like JC Whitney only has a 38 gal tank which is too big.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I still am unsure whether I need the rear mount or side mount unit. At the risk of appearing INCREDIBLY STUPID

is there an easy way to determine this?

The side unit goes along the driver's side under the bed directly behind the cab just inside the frame. The rear unit sits in between the frame rails behind the rear axle.
