I know people have asked dozens of times on this forum, but it would be so much easier if someone can just tell me this.
What years/models of power steering coloums will fit in my 71?
If I go to a junk yard and I ask or am looking for a column, it would be nice if I could just know, instead of kinda know. I think something like up to 79, but don' t know if 4wd and 2wd are the same, if that is even the right years, or what.
Go to ************* web page and they spell it all out for you there. What year, all the parts you need, everything. 4x4 NOT compatible with 2x4. I want to do the same, just waiting for the right parts to come up on Ebay. Also want to install a tilt column.
There are two styles of Gear Boxes, if you don't get the right one you will need to replace of modify your column. Ebay has lots of parts for this, not cheap though. It all just bolts in. 1967-1979, like the other guy said, the wiring needs to be modified. I am only telling you what I've read, not what I've done. Hope this helps.
My steering colunm is half 2wd 1970 and half 4wd 1975. From the inside of the truck it looks and works as the orig 2wd, but under the hood it is all 4wd.
The wheel, wiring, upper bearing and collar, and the outside tube are all 2wd 1970, the shaft, lower end, and coupler are 4wd 1975.
The only mods I did to it were to cut the extra threads off the top so the wheel would go on(still plenty for the nut) and put a stop collar on the lower end to hold the bottom cap in place.
Almost all the other parts were interchangable.
