[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jun-02 AT 10:40 PM (EST)]is it me, or do most people who drive older trucks drive more responsable than most people who drive smaller cars? i see a lot of old and super fast cars going under the speed limit! then the ricers do like 40k over it!
Most folks that drive older trucks or cars usually have alot of money invested in their rides and don't want to tear up anything also they have learned that driving recklesly never proved anything but stupidity.
The older iron also doesn't handle well compared to the newer vehicles. Studies has shown that the better a vehicle handles and the more perceived safety it has (ie., air bags, anti-lock brakes, shoulder belts, crumple zones) the faster and more aggressive people drive. I think it has less to do with preservation of old iron than preservation of yourself.
i have yet another perspective on this i have a 94 Taurus S.H.O. and very very rarly will you see me goin over the posted speed limit for a few reasons
1. it sure is not because it can't reach speeds of 100mph plus it because i dont feel the need to have every little punk in town wanna "run'em"
2. police!! there are speed limits for a reason and i dont feel like having my insurance rate raised because i need to feel "cool"
those are just a few and there are plenty more but yall get the idea!!
One thing is, most of the time they are rebelling and they are stupid(as we all have been at some point in our life, whether we admit it or not, I will, I was stupid when I was a teen). Although there are people, including teens that are smarter than that and drive cars safely. Those people driving the rice burners and such (if they are teenagers and around that age), their parents probably gave them the car or they are just plain ignorant. I know and have known teenagers that are smart about driving and I know teenagers that are stupid as well. Then there are people who just don't care, about themselves or others. I already pay $200 US per month on insurance, I don't want to may more(car insurance is required in Arizona).
I drive an older vehicle every day, a 1970 Mustang fastback. I admit occasionaly I'm over the speed limit, but not terribly over. Part of the reason I drive my older car different is that I have stock disc brakes, which aren't the best, plus if I always punch it I'd get even worse mileage than I already do. I think a big part of it is age. I'm 21, which is the age of most of the rice drivers. I prefer American steel. Most ppl driving older vehicles are older people, and the older you get, the safer you tend to drive. I've even noticed this in myself and how I drove when I first got my license to how I drive now with a few years driving experience.
