13-56 xfer case leak

I have Electronic Shift 13-56 xfer case in my 92 F150. I thank the board for saving me $450 in repairing my shift motor last weekend. While i was fixing that, i noticed a leak midway up on the case to case mating of the transfer case halves. can i split the case and put in a new gasket or is this a night mare once you get it open. from looking at the haynes manuel, it looks like the cover would come off pretty easy, without screwing up everything inside. do any of you have experience with the 13-56 case? can i drop it and split it and replace the cover gasket easily?
thanks for your help
i love this board!!!!

Splitting the 13-56 is pretty easy. You should be able to do the repair in about 2-3 hours at the most. I usually use black rtv sealant instead of gaskets on something like that. I think it seals better and you dont have to worry about tearing the gasket. There is nothing that hard about that t-case. You have two main gears, and chain, and an oil pump in there. I would recommend a haynes manual to do it. You can get on a AutoZone. Just pick one up for the year of your truck and it'll be in there. Then you can see how everything goes together. If you have problems or questions, feel free to email me at stmper246824@aol.com

The local trans guy recamended anarobic gasket maker. It looks like grease, and is made for aluminiun, bounds to the case and flexes. Its a little expensive $14 a tube. sealed me up tight.

The case halves are sealed with silocone from the factory.
