I just picked up a 428 block from the mechanic I used to work for. He says the motor came from a Shelby KR500. I was just looking at things like the webs to the mains, checking for cross bolts (none), etc. What I really want to know is this: How can you tell the difference between a block that was designed for a solid lifter cam and one that was designed for a hydraulic cam? I've seen pictures of the internals that describe the differences, but nothing that distinguishes the outside. Any ideas?

well one thing the 428 never came with cross bolted mains, if you find a block that does its either a late 406 or a 427 as for a solid lifter or hydraulic cam differences i dought you have one the only ones that came with solid lifters was the 66 428 police interceptor, if the block is designed for a solid lifter cam it would have the blocked oil galleries.
