First I need to thank you for the help this site has given us. We have a '99 F250 Superduty V10. My husband uses it for work, and usually only carries his tools and such in it. We had taken it in for starting problems with no luck, and once we read over this site, he changed out the IAC valve, and it was great. The problem we had with the truck, we bought it new in Feb of 1999, it has alot of highway miles on it now, in November of 2000, the transmission went out with 54,000 miles. After a long battle, the dealer replaced it as long as we paid for an extended Powertrain warranty, which is good to 100,000 miles. Last week, while working out of town, the transmission did the exact same thing at 81,000 miles. He was on the highway and slowed down to let a car by when the gears ground to a halt. He did not have any gears, including reverse and could not get it into park. He put the transfer case in neutral for the tow truck and they took it to the nearest dealer. I know of a TSB in Nov. '00 talking about an inline filter that should be replaced. Since the truck is in another state, we are having to rely on that dealer to say if one is on the truck or not. My husband says there is not one. The dealer says the truck is running fine and no codes come up and that it is shifting with no problem. They also say that not having the filter on would not cause any problems. My husband doesn't want to pick up the truck because he feels another transmission should be put in........and we don't really know what avenue to go. We don't want to take the truck and have it happen and strand us out somewhere or end up going out after it reaches the 100,000 miles. And as he says transmissions dont just go out on a truck and then fix themselves. I'm sorry this is so long.............does anyone have any advice?
I have a f350. My transmision gave me trouble at 300 miles, and it finnally went out at 35800miles. If your are dealing with ford good luck! The filter they are talking about was easy to see on my truck. Mine was on the passenger side kinda close to the exhaust. As far as driving it,I would try to get everything they "assure" you of in writing. If possible try for roadside assistance.
