Screwy Temp Gauge
Recently the temp guage on my '90 3.0 XLT has been acting up. When at idle, it reads in the normal range but as soon as you drive and accelerate at all it drops. If you are coasting down a hill it will read normal. Am thinking that it is a bad sensor but I dont see how accelerating would affect it.

Did you flush it out or changed coolant recently? It sounds just like my car after I did. It's air trapped in the heater core and it's almost impossible to get it out immediately. You just have to drive with the heater on constantly and hope it'll go away after a while. My car did after a week or so. Also, change the radiator cap. If the cap is leaking it won't allow coolant to be sucked back into the radiator when the engine cools down.

Sounds like you're right. Flushed the system the other day. Replaced the cap with one from Advance Auto Parts. 13psi release and safety vent. Am also thinking that it is time to replace the thermostat, as I have had the van since 2000 and it hasnt been changed.
