I recently bought a 1993 Bronco with the 351w. Well maintained vehicle with 81,000 original miles. I have put a Gibson exhaust system and a K&N filter as well as a complete tuneup and service. (also a nice sound system) I noticed an oil leak coming from the front of the engine but have not been able to locate it yet. It's not dripping down from the valve cover gaskets or the top of the engine so I assume its' coming from timing chain cover or ?????. My question is this, has anyone had this same problem and where is it coming from? I know many times Broncos like many vehicles have many of the same problems and I don't like re-inventing the wheel. I have gotten some great advice from this board so I'm using one of my life lines. Also since giving the vehicle a tune-up should I put it on a diagnostic machine and have the timing reset? It seems to be running fine but if re-setting the timing will improve MPG then I want to be sure to get it done. Thanks to all those who reply.
jusy make sure you carry a quart of oil with you and check it regularly, and if you don't want oil on the cement in your garage, lay a peice of cardboard uner it.
The timing chain cover could be the culprit....but then again...so could a hundred other things. Best thing is to get the undercarrige cleaned off...set a piece of cardboard on the ground and them park it. as soon as you see oil drops...look under the truck to see where its coming from. I thought I had a major leak and it turned out be my oil filter was loose.
