just a thought

hi jj, unless u have been down this path before and know whats in front, a good idea may be to do sections at a time so it's not off the road for great leangths of time, say a brake upgrade, then suspension, driveline etc with the body last, this way u can still enjoy the use of the old girl befor u pull it apart for paint.( plus any rework won't damage new paint as the bugs will already be sorted) also by doing this if u are swayed by current paint scemes yours won't be out dated before it hits the street.just a thought....cya...gary

jj,
I suggest you read all you can. With this site, and some help from the right people, you can rebuild your truck to whatever condition you want.

When I first registered, I was right where you are, and bygod, Im in the middle of something to be proud of now. Anything is possible with your 55 here at FTE, and with some perserverence, and a few bloody knuckles, your truck will be right where you want it to be.

I'll second what Scrape said. I have more interest and less hassle (from the wife) if I can go out and drive to the local Sonic drive in and have a burger and shake while the old timers come and tell me they had one just like that. If you are driving it occassionally, the flame is always fanned to fix something that:
a) fell off
b) quit working
c) seized up
d) everyone points at and laughs.

Read the Rev Dr. Niolon's treatise on the Trials of a First time Builder , found in the tech articles section of this fine forum. Have a plan. refer to the plan frequently. Understand that you'll spend far more than you'll ever recoup or realize you spent. BUT when calculated against the smiles per gallon.

Good luck

Bubba

I would add that now is a good time to subscribe to 2 or 3 mags. Names like Hemmings, Classic Truck and custom truck will give you lots of advise and sources for parts. Also, see if there is a local truck club in your area. If you join, the other members are usually willing to help out as they can. Good luck, John
