For you guys with points, why not get a Pertronix Ignitor? Have the power and reliability of electronic ignition, without the cost of converting to full-blown electronics?
$75 or so will get ya happy!

im not excatly sure how you would check it. i replaced everything elctronical even teh ignition switch. till my buddy said to check that. you gotta look carfully for cracks mine had a crack running from one side the whole way through the yellow part to the otehr side. its not really that had to change either. about 10 minutes and you can have the old one off.

Must have been the points for me, as a couple of you have suggested or perhaps a loose wire. I adjusted them the other night but did not have much battery and it wouldn't fire. Then today at lunch after connecting the battery to my Suburban with jumper cables, checked for a spark out of the coil wire, and she fired right up. Go figure. Thanks for the help guys. Now I can start to clean up the misplaced tumbleweed and other debris left over from winter.

I have thought about the Pertronix and will likely make the switch someday soon.
