I've seen some suggestions that Ford is improving the performance and shifting on te V-10 for 2002. I'm wondering if this means higher HP or torque numbers. Has anyone seen actual stats for the '02 V10?
Ordered 14 August 2002:
2002 F-250 2WD SD CC Lariat Short Bed. Red/Parchment. V-10, Auto, 3.73LS. Chrome steps, cab lights, tow mirrors, captain's chairs.
The last rumor I heard was the Triton family going to 3 valve heads in 2003. But that didn't make sense to me because they already have 4 valve heads on the Navigator. I believe the '02 engines will be the same as the 2001's.
Well, I have a copy of the 2002 Model Year F-250 Marketing Strategy and Mix Recommendations sheet from Ford, and under
"Functional Changes" it says "Improved performance and shift
feel of 6.8L Triton powertrians". It also says something
similar in another place on the sheet.
But I've never heard what the changes might be. I guess now
that at least one person here has a 2002 V-10, maybe we'll
start getting some of this information.
Now that they are starting to show up on some lots in bigger markets, I really wish that Ford would update their website!

As far as I know, there have no major changes for 2002 models. My best guess would be a new computer program which is strictly changing shift points and pressure inside the transmission. Just my $.02.
I have not seen no performance #s asof yet but I have a2001 V10super duty an have done some modifications to it an also have access to rear wheel dyno to see what happens to the horsepower and torque figures, so far i have added K&N fipk system that was good for 25 hp and 15lbs torque,I made a decsion to keep the factory exhaust pipe and change the muffler only this was good for about 5hp and 2lb of torque the muffler change was to a 2 chambered flowmaster before any thing is said my friend has a v-10 powered 2001 he bought a gibson exhaust and only 7hp and 5lb torque increase and paid $400.00 for the system and our trucks are the same in every way except for color and some accesories the machine shop where the dyno is, told me we could get the cam profile figures from ford order cams for this truck and have them installed according to the figures we got from the computer generated dyno results the engine with the performace modications i have done already, new cams a computer chip and new intake valves to larger size the engine will produce aproximattly 450hp& 600ftlb of torque.all for about $4500.00 of course headers are a option also we put headers on my friends truck he got 15hp 10lbs torque not worth the cost and installation problems we incountered .the best money in my opinon that could be spent is most likley a supercharger Ihave talked to vortec& paxton both and thier dyno results are very promising they both say with thier superchargers you can get 450hp&580ftlb of torque and remain drivable everday.
