I bought my XLT supercab long wheel base f 150 feb 7 and friday night i noticed a leaf spring was missing on the right rear side. It's the middle spring and it broke just above the axel. This truck just passed safety and they had to replace the ball joints. There is no way a 2' section could fall out without me hearing it so they must have looked the other way and hoped i wouldn't notice.Isn't this part included in the safety and shouldn't they fix it since it's only been 21 days or am i screwed? How much would it cost to fix?I was polite on the phone but made it clear I think he played me and im not playin. The next stop would be the mechanic and then BBB and Omnibussman. How do i know the other three springs are not also cracked and the wheels are about to come off?One more thing how come some f 150's have four leafs and others three.
Did you get any kind of warranty when you got the truck? If you got it "as is" it might be difficult to get the dealer to fix it. I don't think it would be too hard to get a replacement from a junk yard, but if one is broken what kind of shape could the rest of the leafs be in? Hope you get it staightened out, good luck.
some f150's were available with a heavy duty suspension...that may be the reason for different springs. I am not sure if I get the question...but it sounds like your saying that a whole leaf is missing out of the leaf spring... Its possible that someone replaced the whole spring with an aftermarket spring that was different from the original equipment. How many springs are on there now? I dont see how one of the leafs could come out of the middle without the whole thing coming apart. Are the clamps still on it?
the wheels wont come off...the worst thing that will happen is it will ride looser than your granny...lol
How many miles are on it...I am curious why they had to replace ball joints?
It's got 105k on it.I've read here the springs commonly crack at the axel and yes you can see the outline of where the spring was, half of the middle leaf is gone and they look to be about 4' long. Some one had to remove it because that wouldn't just fall out. What else is holding on the axel on other than the other three springs.I'm pi$$ed beause it had to be like this when the safety was done.

my freind had some heavy duty springs make for his truck at a local sprin shop and they charged about 160 a peice. so standard springs should be cheaper than that. Of course if you go to a Ford dealer they will be alot more dough.
Well i asked around and the stock springs are cheap, $50 a leaf.Wen't back to the dealer and and inquired as to how it passed saftey and he called a spring shop and informed them I'd be there to have it fixed at his expence.I didn't have time to call myself as it was closing time and I got called back to work for O/T.I guess the suspension is a major part of the safety and must be inspected. Also it is obvious that it's been broke along time (months)judging by the amount of rust at the face of the fracture.Thats what a my mechanic said anyway. The dealer so far has been good about it plus it was a off site shop that did the safety so I can't say a bad thing about him yet. Thanks for the replies.
