Does anyone know what the the clutch life is for a f350, v-10 with a manuel transmission. Assuming I would pull 16-18k in city?
It would be in Louisiana, which is very flat!
well i have a 99 f-350 diesel crewcab 4x4 dually with a 6 speed i pull a 38 foot camper across the country and i have been replacing clutchs about every 38,000 miles
That is a question with many answers. Each driver and vehicle are differant. One person may get 75K out of a clutch with a truck in city with a 30' trailer. The next person with the same equiped truck might get 30K with freeway driving and no load.
The human factor is a HUGE facor in clutch life. That said, befor I got my 2000 F250 PSD 6spd 3L73:1 4X4 ORP CC SB XLT I talked to a Tech friend of mine at the local FORD shop. He told me that the average is about 60 - 75K for the PSD. I did not ask if it is the same for the V10, but i would think it a little less.
I've been driving Ford Pickups for over 25 years, usually replacing them each 5 years at 120,000 to 150,000 miles. Always had manual transmissions. And I've never replaced a clutch due to wear. It's all a matter of going easy on engagement, using all the gears, and avoiding high reving! Now give this same truck to a youngster who doesn't know how to drive, or likes to roam the mud fields, or thinks you have to press the accelerator before raising the clutch, and I've seen clutches wasted in 5,000 miles!
My feeling has always been that you'll get better mileage from a manual!
