a firend of mine has told me that it is better to replace this with just straightpipe, has anyone else done this, he also told me that he had to replace this to pass emissions...(ontario)

I've ended up replacing the flex-pipe once on both my A*s, both about 175K. In both cases I chose generic flex-pipe, but flex-pipe nonetheless. Why? There IS considerable flex between the front and back of an A*. That short length of flex-pipe affords isolation and protection for the engine. Personally, I accept Ford's engineering for this application.
