Air Filter

I just bought a K&N airfilter for my 5.0. Does anybody have some number to see if it really improves the performance. Or is it just a wast of $60.00

Dang...$60 is expensive for just the air filter. When I still had my stock airbox, the filter was only $40 plus tax. After installing the filtercharger, I noticed a little better throttle response. You'll have that lead foot syndrome for a while though. When I finally got rid of that lead foot syndrome, my gas mileage has gone up 2 mpg.

Now that I have the FIPK, throttle response is even better, it has more power, and also a lot louder. It's awesome. Fuel mileage went up an extra mpg so I can get around 21mpg on the highway compared to 18, 19mpg.

My opinion after researching K&N's:
New factory vs. K&N: little difference. The K&N will flow more air than the factory filter as they become dirty. Be careful not to over oil, it can dirty your MAF and throttle body. The original price will eventually be saved back by the longer life of the K&N. I have a factory style filter in my '02 Mountaineer, but have K&N's in my '00 Suzuki Grand Vitara and my '85 Corvette. As for gas mileage, I can't say if it improved in the Suzuki, maybe 1 or 2 MPG, and MPG in the Vette is not an issue.
