Sometimes gauges aren't always correct. Rangers are notorious for gauge problems. To see if the gauge is right, get a thermal temperature gun and point it at your engine while after it's been running and warm. That should tell you the real temp. If your gauge is different then it could be a bad temperature sending sensor or maybe the gauge is about shot.

If it just started doing it then I'd be willing to bet that the problem is a stuck (open) thermostat. My wife's Explorer with a 4.0L did that and a new one fixed the problem. Do not ever let your engine run too cool. Cylinder wear goes way up when the cylinder wall is too cool.

yeah, my gauge does teh same thing, actually my temp AND oil pressure gauge does teh same thing, just hangs around the C and the oil hangs around the L. Truck runs fine. I want to say both my sending units are bad, they have like 113k on them
