Can someone PLEASE point me to a Sight or a "ignition 101" of how points ignition systems work, my truck is the first carb'd vehicle I have ever owned, let alone the first one with points, and I want to know what points are and how a points style ignition system works and what it is
Thanks Daniel, we dont even have my truck running yet, just putting it all back together and now it is ready to paint and we are starting to troubleshoot why mine wont start...aside from the fact its been sitting for over a year, so not sure what you mean about "cold starting" but his bronco is a beast, runs great, starts with just 2 pumps and a turn of the key, fires right up....... excited about my high compression 429

LOL
Carbs aren't like EFI cars, you don't just bump the starter and it fires, you gotta pump the gas and/or use the choke to get it started when the engine is cold. thats what i mean by cold starting
Oh, well yes obviously I know about that, thanx though
Ha Ha I thought you were talking about some mysterious process known to few

You should find a Dura Spark II distributor and box, much better than points, and nothing to maintain.

Im sure if I do a search This conversion has been covered right?
Any year from 75 to 79 will work and probably later also. Get the complete ignition setup and convert that over to electronic it will be much better than an old point style.
A point ignition work's on a cam inside the distributor to "break the contact" or open up the point to get the spark to the plug
