Question Rear End Numbers

Hows it going out there?
I was looking at the numbers on the rearend housing on my truck and was wondering if any one can help decipher what they all mean.
They were hard to read but the numbers are(i think)9C2505AW4668A.
The guy i bought truck said it was a late model rearend but could not remember what it came out of.

Can you take a pic of it and put it in your photo gallery. Also go to the rear end forum(hehehehe) and ask them. It looks like its a modern 9" but if so then it has a very low ratio(2.5) or a very high one (4.66) Are you able to go very fast in the truck. If so then its a 2.50 if not then you are really in need of a new differential. Ed

I also found a good source on 9" information.

I found a couple more searching the net, but this one worked for me.

hope this can help!

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info on 9" rearends. I have only had truck for a couple of weeks and have not been able to get out on the highway yet. I am getting anxious to drive it. The guy i bought it from said it ran down the highway very well. He put the late model rear in it because of the ratio that was in it when he got the truck.

I also created a picture gallery. Take a look at the picture and tell me what you think of it. The was taken on the day i picked it up and before i loaded on trailer to bring it home.

BTW how many posts do you need to no longer be a new user?

Terry,

Nice looking truck. Red always looks good on these old trucks. I also like the wood above the bedsides. I know you are anxious to drive it. I would be too. If the previous owner changed the rear end "because of the ratio", I would think he would have changed it to a more highway friendly ratio instead of the other way. Report back to us when you have driven it. Also look for a metal tag under one of the bolts holding the third member in. Unless someone has removed it, the ratio will be stamped on the tag...

Thanks for the reply. I will look for tag the next chance i get.
I was hoping to drive it today because the weather is so nice out but instead i am going to put up crown molding in the bedroom. Have to keep wife happy.
The FTE is a great place to discuss ford trucks. Its good to be able to talk to people who have been through the problems associated with these old trucks.
