I've been sampling the oil in my new truck, to compare good oil with the 5w20 we're supposed to be using. I was interested in viscosity, but have gotten high silicone levels;
With dealer installed oil (?) and factory air filter at 2000 miles (5000 on the truck) it was 72.
With Ford 5w20 I put in and most of the 1000 miles with an aFe element (6000 on the truck), it was 39.
These rates are comparable as to mileage, and are too high.
I than went to Fla with mobil1 5w30, 4000 miles, but don't have that sample yet. I'm scared to get it. I can't find anything loose or missing (open) anyplace
Silicon can come from an opening (which you check for) or for seals and gaskets wearing. It sounds like your truck is new, so the silicon will be high initially. It dropped the second time, and should continue to do so.
Doesn't silicon have to do with air filtration? My silicon level at 29,000 miles was 12ppm. Have not sampled since. However, your oil sample printout should show universal averages that compare to the same engine you have with the relevant mileage. Look for those averages and see where you compare. It is a possibility you are not getting acceptable air filtration.
