99 F150 4x4 ,5.4 auto, 112,000 miles . Any suggestions on how to cure rear shoes lock up after sitting over nite. After afew stops they are OK. Pulled drums, cleaned dust and checked shoes.
Gfreek, two weeks ago I had my tires rotated and balanced.I had the tech remove the rear drums so I could inspect the brakes. The shoes had cracks in them, due to dragging.Today,I fixed that problem; I replaced the shoes, all the hardware, wheel cylinders, turned the drums, and flushed the brake fluid. Dayum! What a difference! Feels like a brand new truck now;well, the brakes,at least. I used all Wagner and Bendix parts.
The TSB just says that Ford changed up the shoes to ones that are less sensitive to moisture exposure. If you buy the latest shoes from Ford they will be the revised ones.
If your shoes are still in good shape and you dont want to replace them you can chamfer the ends of the linings with a coarse file and that will usually help. Basically from the factory the ends of the linings are square. You want to chamfer them from the end of the lining in about 1/4" or so making them tapered from there the lining attaches to the steel to the braking surface.
Make sure you wear a dust mask when you're doing this. Brake dust is really bad for you.
Sorry
The psychic hotline didn't tell me you were doing your brakes.
hey......Why is it you never see the headline... "PSYCHIC WINS LOTTERY"?
