What size tire?
Got a stock 99 expedition with 4X4. Got 16" rims with 255/70/16.
Want to go with a bigger tire for better gas mileage, how big can I go with out a lift or hack job. Stock everything else.

I have 265/75/16 ProComp mud terrains on my stock 2001 4x2 EXPY. No problems with clearance and they look sweet!! Some road noise. Increasing series (going from 70 to 75) did decrease my gas mileage due to the increase rotating mass. Think twice about going anything bigger. You may need gearing to turn the bigger tires with the stock torque. Check out other forums about tire sizing on stock EXPY rims. God Bless & Mahalo...

I've got LT285/75/16's on my STOCK non-LLS 2000 4x4. They fit fine with no rubbing on or off road. Don't expect better mileage though, but expect a higher gear ratio and a speedo that's off by around 10% (low).

now correct me if im wrong unless you have the speedometer corrected to compensate for the bigger tires you would not loose or gain anything as far as gas mileage since the speedometer would be off
