I’m looking at the 2002 F-250 Auto PSD but after checking the specs (as listed at the Navistar web site), I have a concern about the automatic transmission. I noticed that the PSD is detuned when mated with the auto (275 Horsepower and 520 lbs-ft of Torque with the manual and 250 Horsepower and 505 lbs-ft of Torque with the automatic). Is the auto operating that close to its maximum design specs?

If the specs they listed are for rear wheel hp and torque the numbers you see are different due to the losses through the automatic. Although 25 hp seems a little high. Manual trannys are by far more efficient than autos. But you can get chips that increase the line pressure to the clutch packs in the tranny increasing it's efficiency.
