I have a 92 F150 with an E4OD, 4.9, 140K. It runs great cold but after 7 miles of highway driving I am getting a severe vibration when I accelerate or try to climb the slightest grade.
This vibration occurs in all gears at any speed over 25 mph, but not while stopped and power braking. When the windows are down I hear a jingling coming from under the truck when the vibration/shaking occurs. The ECM returned a 628 code (converter clutch slipping).
I am guessing I have a problem with the converter clutch.
Is there an easy way to disable the converter lockup feature in order to help troubleshoot this problem?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I ohmed the TPS pot and all looked normal. 4k pot and I’m getting a smooth and steady .8k to 3.8k on the wiper. At least I did reseat all connectors under the hood. Maybe that will help. I also found a broken vacuum line to one of the HVAC vent motors.
