leaky m5od tranny
does anyone know how to stop the tranny on my truck from leaking oil. it uses regular atf oil and it gets all over the rear cross member under my truck and other parts. i would like to replace it but it does not give me any other problems just leaks all the time. the truck is a 1993 f150, 5.0 v-8, m5od manual five speed tranny. any in formation would be greatly appreciated.
I ended up not even replacing mine because I could not get a new set of plugs very quickly and I needed the truck for a long trip. My solution was (don't laugh) I bought a couple cans of brake clean and cleaned the area very well and got a couple tubes of 5 minute epoxy and went to town.
I did this about 2 years ago now and it still holds up. If you can get new plugs you are able to remove them and put the new ones in without dissasembling the transmission. I was told that I had to dissasemble the top of it to change them. It is a little bit of a pain, but I pulled one of mine out and put it back in again, they are just rubber.
This might not be where your leak is from, but as far as I know this is pretty common. If you can find a picture of the transmission it might help you out a bit to know what/where I am talking about. I remember a link to a page on here once that had detailed views of the M5OD.
