I had an 86 Bronco years ago, with the 302, I'm thinking it had the spout connector by the distributor that needed to be unplugged. And the base timing setting was 10 BTDC.
This spout connector is a little grey plastic looking plug, it should be in the area of the distributor. It will be a couple of wires that just dead end with this plug in the connector at the end of it. Unplug it before you do any timing adjustments. Hook your timing light to the number #1 plug wire. Check the timing with the engine running and warm.
