Acceleration Stubble
I am having problems with my newly rebuilt engine (302) stubbling when it gets up to 3200- 4200 rpm. The engine seems to stumble and miss fire at this point. (Recreational cam in the motor)
I have all new rotor, cap, plug wires, plugs and now a new ignition coil. (MSD Blaster coil Pt# 8227 for TFI units)
The code reader comes up with a code 18 which relates back to the coil, wires and TFI unit problems. I have not replaced the TFI unit yet
What is the main problem related to code 18 or can anyone give me an idea on the Code 18 solution. It is getting expensive replacing components?

I read your note about your modified 302 and the problem with the TFI. If you move away from the TFI unit what did you replace it with?
I want to keep the fuel injection on this system and is there anything that can be adapted to run with this 1986 EEC-VI system or does the entire system (ignition and fuel injection) need to be replaced?
This has become very costly as I was told the HO cam was a good choice but due to the truck electronics I had to replace the cam after the rebuilt to a NON-HO cam to make it run
I can understand the cam duration would affect the timing but there must be variable TFI ignition system out there for this type of modification?
I heard there was a Ford Motor sport TFI unit but I did not buy this as it wa over $200 but I did buy a std TFI as Code 18 came up as a TFI module error. I have not opened the new one to replace it yet as I was going through some electrical continuity tests first. I can then return it
Any idea on what to change to? Your comments are greatly appreciated and I think you are right on the money.
