Tonneau vs. toolbox

Ok, so I have been having a debate with myself on what I want for my truck. I currently have a low-profile bed toolbox but it is quicky filling up. Plus, I am finding that it takes up a lot of bed space in an already small truck bed. I also hate trying to So, I thought maybe i'll just look into getting a full tonneau cover instead. But, I would hate to be stuck with it on, needing to put someting large or tall in the bed. So, my question is, what has been your experince with either? Likes, dislikes, pros, cons? Thanks.

Hmmm...i'll assume you made it yourself? If so, where did you get the latch from?

Man every time i see that toneau cover, i want it even more.

BTW he made the latch out of stainless. He needs to let me have that one and make himself another one.

I got a Leer fiberglass T-cover. They are really slick. Keeps everything dry in the bed (FL climate) and makes the truck ride better. Helps hwy mileage too, and it gives it a cleaner look. Id never go back. If you haul a lot of big things then dont get one. Kinda pricey though

The hinges are made out of stainless. The latch setup is kind of over kill, it will outlast the truck. The diamond plate was $90 sheared to my specs. I have to make a second one. I am going to use aluminum cross braces for the back half to make it a little lighter to lift for my g/f.

I've got a hard fiberglass tonneau cover. I think its by *******? Can't remember the name. Its really thick and sturdy. I've seen a lot of other fiberglass covers that look like they are curling at the ends...maybe due to heat/temp changes? Mine still has perfect lines all around.

It is also decently heavy, and I notice that the truck rides smoother with it on. Puts some extra weight on those rear wheels.

I don't haul a lot of things, so I can pretty much plan in advance of when I want to haul something to take the cover off.

I originally bought it because I was making a vacation trip from Arizona to Oregon and wanted to secure tools, packages, luggage etc etc in the bed while I was visiting places or staying at the hotel. I didn't want a big ugly camper shell, and so the hard fiberglass tonneau that locked would be perfect.

I used to have a toolbox in another truck, but found that it was a pain, because what I always need had worked its way to the bottom and was covered by other stuff. I'd have to stand in the bed to rummage through it, and it made the space in the bed a lot shorter, and it was difficult to remove quickly.

I can remove and replace my tonneau cover in about 2 minutes.
I've got one of those spring loaded rods that inserts between the bed sides and it keeps my tool box from shifting around.

I never went for the soft tonneau covers, because they weren't secure, all you need to do is unsnap them or cut them open with a knife to access everything in the truck.
