Ford will continue to produce the Excursion, at least in diesel form for 2005. However, after exchanging emails with a very reluctant representative from the Ford Custom Relations Center, I was told that "…since this article is originating from a non-Ford source, we are not able to substantiate its contents. We do not have any plans at this time to produce the Excursion for 2005." This despite the fact that you quoted a well-known Ford employee (Jon Harmon). Typical large corporation…the left-hand doesn’t know what the right-hand is doing. I sent mail to Jon Harmon (the Ford representative quoted in the article), but have not yet heard back.
Does anyone else have any info on this?
The reason I'm asking is I'd like to purchase an Excursion, but will not be in a position to do so until the end of this year.
I can't seem to understand why they are pushing so many of the X's with diesel's? I woudn't mind having one myself someday, but the V10 rocks! It is a much cheaper option that I would think would allow folks to get into a new X. Just curious on that one.
I also was just browsing the Local Ford Dealer sites and the only F250's they have on the lot, per the web are diesel's? What gives? I love the V10 so far! It's power is excellent and a pleasure to drive behind!
Also, with the problems folks are having with the 6.0 diesels, it seems kinda lame to push that many out there before they have a handle on them being reliable. That is the part that really torq's me off! Dang if I want to spend 50K on a vehicle that is going to be headed to the shop several times in the first year!

Something like 70%-80 of all SD are sold with a diesel. Your dealer is just stocking what sells.

"Its likely Ford will continue to build the Excursion through the 2006 model year and retire it when a stretched version of the Expedition becomes available."
Leaving the Job1 date blank could mean that there will be not an '05 X, or that Ford just hasn't decided yet when to start building X's.
For example, maybe Ford has not yet decided whether to give '05 X's the same cosmetic upgrades as the '05 SD. Until they decide what to do, they would not annouce a Job1 date.
Thanks, that's about what I figured. So is this published somewhere on the web, or magazine?

The answer here is simple: from Ford's point of view, the PSD means more profit. From a customer's point of view, the PSD is much more powerful and efficient than the V10 and V8. Sure it's a $5000 premium, but most customers seem to think the power and economy advantages are worth it.

Being a Ford Rep I can tell you that the highest take rate on the Excursion is for PSD. They will continue through 2005. Ther are very limited number of V10's produced both because customers are not wanting them as much and the used market on V-10's is very soft.
I work at KTP, the plant that builds the Excursion, and from what we've been told in the plant, Ford does plan to build the Excursion in the 2005 model year. 2006 model year is still questionable, and there will definately not be a 2007 model, or unless the new Extended Expedition uses the name.
