transmission code?axle code 1991 diesel

Does anyone know the what a "45" axle code and a "E" trans code is on a 1991 F350 diesel? i am also converting to 4 wheel drive is it correct that the gear ratio in the front and the back have to be the same?

Code 45=non posi 4.10.The tranny E40D,And yes the front needs to be the same as the rear or one set of tires will turn at a different speed than the other.
