2 noticeable problems - Any idea?

Proud owner of my new 04 F-150. 2 things though. I am getting grease on the inside of my windows when i roll them up and down. Not sure what this could be, but probably easily fixable.

2nd thing.... When I turn on my truck, I hear a small "thump" from what seems like the engine. Any ideas?

Anyway, would love to hear what you guys think about this. Thanks!

Haven't had any of those symptoms. The grease may be from the window track, dealer should be able to fix that real quick. The thunking noise from the engine, no clue! Get it in to the dealer and have them check it out soon in hopes the noise ain't anything serious.

Had the grease/tar on my windows too. Had to clean with naptha. This went away after a couple cleanings.
The thunk is the air/heat blend door closing. When you start up, you get vacuum thru the system and the door returns to whatever position you have on the air cond/heat system.
Annoying, but quite normal.

Kingfish, thanks so much for the post.... you saved me a service call. What is Naptha? A cleaner?

Again, thanks for your post.

Lighter fluid. The stuff works great on just about all label glues, tar, etc. Have even used on the paint to get stubborn stuff off. Should not hurt it as long as you don't over do it.

Try not to get too much of any solvent on the rubber door channels. Naptha can soften the rubber where it may swell and or crack. Also, try not to get any solvent down into the door/window pocket since it would wash out any lubricant from where it needs to be (window lift motor, linkages, etc.). I would suggest just cleaning the glass periodically until the grease is all rubbed off.

Unfortunately the stuff I had would not come off with anything except naptha. As all I ever do is wet a paper towel with it and wipe away the stuff, there is no problem with the rubber. Any residue evaporates quickly.

Check and Make sure your AC is not on. I had the same thing happen to me, but then noticed that the AC button was illuminated and deactivated it. No Thumps since!!

Funny you say this I have the same thing with my truck!!!!! The grease thig will go away .It did on mine but the thump is an air vent door opening and closing it is vacume operated door it will do this if you leave your ac on after you turn off the truck. And when you start it back up it will do this. See my other posts

hey fellas,

just bought an 04 f-150. a really fine ride....i'm very impressed so far. still miss my stroker though.

i've been hearing that thump sound also....i haven't had my a/c on yet. however i have been leaving the defrost turned on. this could also be be causing that vent to open/close? thanks in advance.

Yep. Any time the defrost is on, the A/C will run. If you turn the control to "off" when you shut down, you won't hear the thump on start-up. Must be a Ford thing, as my F-350 does it too.
