Cast Heads
I wish they would come out with cast heads for the 5.4 whos hair brain idia was that any ways to put alm. heads with a cast block.

You mean to tell me that the valve-to-piston clearance is so close that you can't simply surface-to-clean the heads? I would think that if it took more than .010" to clean than there's some warpage problems also. The valves can't be that close, can they?

V10 double tow, The problem is that there was a hand full of those 5.4 s that had reject heads on them the only way that I can see and fix this from happing again is to put the redisgned heads on the truck. From what I am hearing out there is that anything made after 01 is good the heads got redsigned in 02. I do not want this to happen as long as own the truck. We lot of jobs to do this spring. And can not aford to have the truck in the shop at that time. The truck only has 14,000 miles on it. It is almost like new. I do not think it was a good idia to put alm. heads on a cast block. They tried it in the 40s, And it did not work then.

Yeah, but the 40's? Come on! You had to kiss soldiers while standing on one foot with one leg up in the air back then. They didn't know much about aluminum alloys in the 40's. (They just knew about kissing soldiers while standing on one foot with one leg up in the air.) You probably won't ever have anything happen to your 1999. (Provided you take care of it.) There are many many wonderful 99's with the 5.4L out there.
