I need your help. When my Bronco is cold, the whole drivetrain feels really tight. As it heats up, there is clunk out of the rear of the Bronc that gets worse and worse as it heats up. It feels like I climb a 2X4 everytime I start from a stop and every time I stop it feels like I just dropped off the 2X4. What could be causing this? Any ideas. I did a quick check of the drivetrain and everything feels pretty tight???
Lots of discussion threads if you do a search. My 95 EB does the same, though not quite as severe as yours sounds to be. I had the whole thing looked at, and the slipjoint relubed, but that didn't help. The only relief I ever got was when I had to replace the speed sensor on the rear differential. Clunk disappeared for several months, but is now back again, and like yours, only when truck is warmed up. maybe time to clean that sensor again.
I would say you have a bad ring gear/pinion. The gear oil is thicker when cold and as it warms up it gets thinner taking up less slop in the bad gears.
