I'm a new user and cant' use Email yet and i may not be going about this the right way.
I'm posting this here because you moderate this forum.
you mentioned working on a Trooper in another thread so I'm hoping you can help me. I need to replace the fuel pump on an
87 trooper and i'm not looking forward to it. I've had the head off before, when a broken heater hose resulted in a cooked head. So i know how hard the pump is gonna be to get at.
You ever replaced one before? I'm wondering things like if taking the fender off would make it easier. Any tips? tricks? special tools that would help?
For the record i am a dedicted ford user

wrecked)
That was an awesome car
At $500 for the Trooper, with a rebuilt motor in it, i couldn't resist
I junked my 90 last summer after the head or pistons went out again. I didn't want to mess with the POS anymore. The engine used 1 qt of oil every 5-700 miles every since it was new. Bad or mis-installed rings in #4 and the dealer would not fix it. I had already replaced the head twice. The drive train was good but the engines and management systems were poor.
>>I am going to assume here you are talking about the mechanical pump location on the side of the head under the intake assy?<<
yep, that's it. That's where it's at.
I've had the replacement pump sitting around here for a while now. Didn't think of it till just now. It'd probably be easier, less work and trouble to do an add-on elec fuel pump under the hood. My 83 ranger has one. maybe the dealer will tke the mechanical one back.
The old pump still pumps fuel, but it's been dripping oil out what i'm guessing is the vent. had the bright idea of plugging it and the pump locked up.
Now it's dripping more and it smells like gas. Which leads to to another thought. If it's mixing gas and oil coming out, it could be doing that internally, in the crankcase and that would explain the drop in oil pressure to O at idle.
Never really did want this vehicle, shoulda sold it as soon as i got for a small profit.
No, this one is a 2.6L inline 4 and the other on later models were 2.?L V-6 with zero torque. Could have been Cheby but I don't know. The 4 was the better engine for off road. I lost track of what they used after ~92. AFAIK the 2.6L-4 was a Isuzu engine. The gasket set matched some Honda engine also. I think 90 was the first year for the V-6 but they were gutless so I got the 4. I thought they might have been 2.6L that year but I don't remember, -slept too many times since then. Izoozoo is not my thing.
i was just looking for some one who knew more than the manual. a short cut, ya know?
Well, thanks , had to try.
