Need some diameters

Hey guys, I'm going this evening to buy some piping to replace my second catalytic converter with straight piping to hopefully save on some gas. I wanted to confirm some dimensions. I measure a 3 inch OD into the cat and a 2.5 inch OD coming out of the cat. Would this be correct? Also, once I take off the shields, will it be welded on or clamped on? Thanks in advance.

1996 should have been the first year of MAF as well as OBD-II on our F Series/Broncos. They have the additional sensor behind the catalytic convertor. Also, you do realize the two cats in the stock Y pipe actually function as 1 cat (pre-cat and cat)? I would have to imagine youre computer will not like you altering that exhaust, unless you get one of those dummy sensors. Im not sure how much gas you think you will save by removing that cat. They really are not as constricting as most people think. The Y pipe itself is the real problem. Have you happened to read the sticky at the top of the forum? There is a link from the big bronco forum about altering emissions equipment you might want to take a look at. Also, is there emissions testing in youre area? How bout visual inspection? If not, could there be soon? You also have to take into account resale value of a vehicle when modifying crucial emissions equipment. Just playing devils advocate here...
