My truck was in a rollover accident about 15 years ago, and my uncle who owned it then only replaced the body panels that really needed to be done, and put bondo on everything else. One thing is my cowl, and its got a decent amount of it on it thats starting to crack and fall off. I was wondering if it would be worth replacing it or just rebondo it? Ive got a cousin who can do bodywork, but hes fairly new to the biz and doesnt know how difficult it would be. Thanks!
Go to a junkyard with and get one.
drill the spotwelds to get the old one off and weld the new one on the same way and do some sort of anti rust coating on the inside.
it won't be easy.
They are not to hard to do, but the question is how good is the cab?
When you get into a rollover they seem the cab doesn't fit the door openings very good (if not done right). Allso if the cab is rusted it might be worth to change to a good cab, instead of just replacing the cowl. Around here it isn't hard to find a good cab.
If the cab is in good shape then I would just change the cowl. Pull the windshield, cut the old one out and weld the new one in.
It takes about a full day to put it to a primer stage (but I do it for a living). Just watch out for the sparkes that may fly into the cab on in the insulator pad they will start a fire.
Well, the cab isnt in the best of shape. The doors dont really line up all that great, so if a new cab is fairly cheap, maybe Ill just go that way. Thanks for the info!
