flush brake system
flush brake system
what is the easiest way to flush your brake system, i have to replace the abs control unit (HYDRAULIC UNIT) and the instructions say you must flush the brake system..i have never done this before ,the also say you should use a grounded wrist strap ?? what the heck is that ...please help guys
You can flush the system by bleeding the brakes at all four corners untill all of the old fluid is replaced.
The grounded wrist strap is to prevent static electricity from zapping the computer. Unsure if it's really necessary.

There are special procedures necessary to bleed the ABS unit. Grab a Haynes manual. It has detailed instructions on how to do it. You do need to also do as First Ford Truck said, and bleed the brakes at all four corners starting at the farthest corner from the Master Cylinder and working your way closer.
Good luck,

thanks for the replies guys, i have the haynes man, and i will check out there procedure on the abs, however the instructions for the new unit does not explain any special bleed procedures required....i will check the book first though, i have been chasing this abs problem for a long time and i finally got the news parts to fix it i sure as hell dont want to screw it up...thanks again for the help
and so you know a grounded wrist strap is just a peice of wire that goes from you( your wrist) to frame, it keeps static electricity from jumping off of u and into your computer, its easy to do, take a long peice of wire and ground it and wroap the oter end bare of course. but it arond like a watch band, and whala, home made ground strap, as far as im told anyways.
