stock engine availability in '48 F2

I'm looking at a '48 F2, and the seller doesn't know much about it. Where can I find out what engines were available from the factory?

Seller says it's a 6, but I assumed it would have a V8 flahead in it. It's supposed to be all stock and a driver.

I'd go take a look, but it's pretty far away, and I want to do all my research before I committ to a 1,000,000 mile drive.

Thanks.

Ask for the VIN which should be on the glove box door and also on the title.
88RY12345 - V8
87HY12345 - Straight 6.
First 8 is the year, 8R = V8, 7Y = six, Y = F2 (3/4 ton) and 12345 is a production sequence.
I think most were V8's, but mine is a six. All were flatheads.

Wow, thanks fo the fast reply.

The VIN says it's a 6.
Is it a motor (assuming it's in good shape) you'd take far from home, or are they a problem?
I'm assuming that since it's still a driver (and supposedly driven every week) that it's in decent shape.

Thanks again
