Alpine Amp Cutting Out
I bought a V-power mono block alpine amp. (700 watt) and I have it running with a Sony Xplod head unit. I have all the wiring right to the amp from the battery and ground and all the others. The subs are 2 10" Sony Xplod 1100 watt peak (300 rms). My deck dosent have sub out puts so i just ran the RCA cables from the rear speaker out put for the subs. When i turn the sterio up loud and turn the bass up a bit to get them pounding they will just shut off. The amp dosent shut off because the power light is still on. They should beable to handle my amp because i only have it at about half power and its only 700 max. Does anyone know if the amp has a automatic shut off or something if it thinks its putting out to much power???? I would greatly appreciate any help from anyone that can tell me anything. I have it grounded to the frame so it cant be the ground. but thanks to anyone that can help me. hopefully hear from u soon.

The amp won't put out too much power, but you may be working the amp beyond it's capabilities. The Alpine V-Power that puts out 700 watts max is actually only capable of 200 watts RMS@4 ohms or 350@2 ohms. You don't say how the subs are wired, but it sounds like you may be asking too much of the amp and it is shutting itself down to protect it from burning up. It's very easy to overdrive an amp of this size. An often overlooked thing is how critical it can be as to where the amp is installed. Does it have plenty of space around it to allow for cooling? If not, and you are working the amp hard, then you will continue to experience this problem, more than likely.
Also, do you have the proper size of power cable and ground cable? The ground should be the same size as the power cable. Why not just ground to a nice unpainted spot under your carpet? Scrape if you must and place a star washer UNDER the ground point. Grounding to the frame does nothing better if the ground point isn't clean and secure.
