engine thud

I have a 2002 PSD 7.3 liter F-350 Dually (4x4). Recently there has been a thump or thud coming from the engine compartment about 45-50 seconds after idleing in park . This never happens on the first cold start of the day, always on the second start and about 33% of the rest of the starts throughout the day. I am concerned because it is a relatively strong thud (strong enough to feel it shake the truck).
Any ideas? The truck has 70k miles.

I HAVE AN 01 F-350 PSD AND IT DOES THE SAME THING. HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT WHAT IT IS THOUGH. I'VE HAD SOME OTHER GUYS TELL ME THEIRS DOES THE SAME THING.

It's a damper shutting in your heater. Doesn't hurt anything, but I was concerned the first times I heard it too.

What do you suggest to do in order to get it to stop?

Shut off HVAC controls before shutting down.

I doesn't hurt anything so no real reason to shut down the HVAC unless it is really that annoying a sound. I got to the point where I have to listen for it. My wife goes nuts everytime it clunks... I just laugh... OK, bad humor on my part but it is fun...
