Plug Wire Recommendations

Looking for your thoughts on the best performing wires for my 7.5(460 V8). See my sig. below. This truck carries a Lance 1121 camper all the time and also tows an almost 2K LB. boat behind about half the time so MAX performance is key. Thanks for your help! I'm new here and this site has more useful info and helpful people than any orther truck site on the web that I've visited in the last 4 years!!

Gaffer,

Welcome to FTE! Is your ignition system stock? or have you put any aftermarket parts at all on it? What wires were you using before? Were you getting any "whine" thru the radio/ feedback/noise?
How many miles did you get out of them before you decided they need changing? What spark plugs are you running? Are you gapping them at the recommend gap?
Do you have headers on the 460? (reason I ask: need to know if you require any special angle boots, or will stock angles on all 8 work?)

I bought the truck at 40,100 mi. it now has 42,000 mi. and except for Bosch Platinum plugs and new cap and rotor (w/brass inserts & rotor parts) at 40,500 mi. the ignition is still factory oem with original wires. See sig. below for other mods. No headers. No radio noise. I've used Jacobs trick-box, coil, wires, cap and rotor on a Chevy 350 and they seemed to be fine but that was 8 or 9 years ago on a 93 Sub. On this engine I'm just trying to complete the improvements I've made between intake-burn-exhaust. I'm looking for the best high performance wires that are totally radio quiet. I really don't want to go beyond new wires on this truck as I'm about at the $$ limit of what I want to invest in it. It's only for vacation/RV use between March thru November. Thanks for your help.

Gaffer,

Judging by what you've replaced and what you've added (signature line), you could easily use stock OEM wires. There's really nothing so extreme in your ignition-manifold-exhaust tract that warrants a super heavy-duty or high hp radical ignition wire set. If the stock size is 8mm, you could go to a 8.5 wire. If it's an 8.5mm wire already, stick with that size, but you COULD get wires that work more optimally with the platinum topped plugs. That's really about it, IMO.

So, to recap:

1. stick with the OEM wires - they'll do fine;
2. upgrade 8mm wires to 8mm's that work with the Bosch
Platinum plugs(watch the gapping) better than the stockwires;
3. If stock wires ARE 8.5mm, you "could" upgrade (again) to
8.5mm wires that work better with the Bosch Platinum plugs.

Side-bar:

Search this forum for threads about plugs. Not sure if Bosch is the best brand to go with on these motors. If memory serves (and that's a BIG "if"), Autolites and Motorcraft work well with Ford engines and they last alot longer than Bosch, etc. Just a side-note; check into it if you wish.

Thanks for the prompt response! I'll think it over and make a choice based on your points.
