Need Steering stabilizer advice
Noticed that the front steering stabilizer came off on the end that attaches to the steering linkage.
When I went to remove the unit, I saw why the unit had come
off. It seems that the mount is about 20degress off from level where the stabilizer lines up with the frame.
So, the end that came off was 'cranked' off-center about 20-degrees and it seems after 3 years, the rubber bushings just wore out and the stabilizer came off the mount.
I went and tried two new stabilizers (first the Ford one, which was expensive and I returned, and then a Pro-comp unit which was preported to have a 'fix' for this issue by including a new bolt with a bigger head to prevent the stabilizer from popping off again.)
Both units are the same size, and both line up the same way - the connection on the sterring linkage is turned about 20-degrees off horizontal center.
I am having trouble with the way it all goes together.
You can see that the place you mount the stabilizer to (on the steering linkage) has not moved and is not bent.
So, does your steering stabilizer mount sit about 20-degree off horizontal center on your SD?
Would you mess with that mount bracket on the steering linkage to get it right, or would you assume this is the way it is supposed to fit?
Normally, anything with a bushing and mouting hole is supposed to move a bit, but its hard to believe that its that much off.
This is the only problem I have ever had with the truck. I love it.
