I purchased some Lightning Audio 6.5 inch replacement speakers since my stock ones were trashed, but the new ones are simply too big. I would have to enlarge the hole and drill new mounting holes just to make them fit and I really don't feel like doing that. What will be a direct fit? I've searched on this and saw some people using 5.25's. Will those bolt up no problem?
Thanks.
yeah, my 94 Bronc, probably same size im sure, has 6.5 in the doors, got K6.2 compnents, with tweeters mounted on A-Pillar, sounds incredible! Great imaging!
i had that problem. i just took a grinder to the opening and enlarged it enough to mount the speakers in and then used self-tapping screws to secure them. if the 5.25's don't fit you can just make a plate from wood or plexiglass or anything thin you have laying around. hope this helps.

I guess it's this stupid Lightning Audio speaker that doesn't fit. Anyone know if the Pioneer 3-way 6.5's are a direct fit without any grinding/drilling? Thanks again.
yeah, my sony xplod 6.5's that i had fit like a glove but the power acoustiks i have now i had to enlarge the opening. maybe its just different manufacturers using different templates???? it might be interesting to just go to an audio store one day and measure there speakers to see how much variation they have
anyone think you may have gotten 6 and 3/4's instead? I almost made this mistake, the only reason I didn't was because the 6.5's were cheaper! The kicker's say 6.2 for the model # on the 6.5 components, and have 65.2 for the 6 3/4" compnents, causes too much confusion!
I ended up getting some Pioneer 6.5 inch 3-ways. They fit just fine with no drilling/grinding. I compared them to the Lightning Audios and there is a deeper dish in the back of the LA's, as well as a wider diameter mounting hole location. Just incase anyone was looking for some cheap replacements, the LA's will require some work. As for my setup now, I'm very pleased with the sound quality. I have LA 6x8's in the rear, the pioneers up front, and a kenwood deck.
