I am wondering,...has anyone ever worked on the Maxi Brake System. I have a F-700 that I need to replace the axle seal on. I have no problem getting the axle out, but I have to adjust the shoes on the back to get the drum/hub off. I am having trouble getting the brakes adjusted. Do I need a special spoon to do this, and if so how do I use it. There is not a typical star nut on the shoes that allows for adjustment. any help or links would be greatly appreciated.
im going toi tell my age here , but there are two lock nuts on two studs at the upper and lower ends of the brake shoes on the backing plate on both sides , loosen the locking nuts and turn the studs , that will rotate the adjusting cams on the brake shoes and loosen or tighten them as needed ,if you dont own the truck and are a novice at this , the best advice i can give you would be to let a certified brake adjuster do the adjusting , if you own the truck, welcome to the world of driving em all day and working on em all night bob

Thanks bob,
The problem is, that I dont have lock nuts and adjusting screws either. Here is what i am looking at. If you look at the back of the wheel there is the brake plate, ot the disc where the brake lines go in. There are four grooves cut in the brake plate on the back of the wheel. 2 are for the release of dust( I assumee) and 2 have the words adjuxt by them. These grooves(openings) are aout 1/2 inch wide by 1 1/2 inch long. I am going to need some kind of spoon to get in there and loosen the so I can get this hub off. I can see the cams in there that I need to move. the only problem is, I don't know how they move.....up and down.....rotate? Any help would be appreciated.
sorry bout that , was standing out in the cold again , use the spoon ,and see if they will move , by watching them you should either see the brake shoes move or they will get so tight you wont be able to turn the drum , in which case you need to turn them the other way , its been so long since ive done them , ive forgot which direction, a big screwdriver , a small prybar , or a storebought spoon should work, if you can see threads on the shaft , you may want to spray a small amount of WD to loosen them, bob
