What has anyone experienced with the Standard Abrasives kits. I was going to do the carbide bit thing but would have had to do something else to polish the chamber so I went with the kit from Summit. I must admit that it seems to me that the abrasive drums and stones would be a bit wimpy compared to the carbide. Anyone have any experience eith abrasives?

There are two recent notes in this forum that touch on your subject.

One is entitled something like "Do carbide burrs last..." or something like that. Author is JWTaylor and it's just a few threads below this one. Another is entitled something like "Porting and polishing - questions and musings" and the author is me - Ferguson777.

We discuss the pros and cons of stones versus carbide, dremel versus die grinders, etc.

I purchased the std. abrasives kit. Liked it except for the stones. They clog VERY fast and you spend as much time cleaning them as using them. I was one of many that strongly recommended the carbide burrs over the stones - but avoid the carbide for aluminum - use the ones for iron on aluminum. Why? it's in the other threads.....Read those threads then post any additional questions you may have.

Later,

I think post porters use the burrs for the heavy removal and then the sand paper to clean up and polish.
